Greetings,
I have the same thing going on with my '87.. The short term fix (now
stretched to 6+ months) was to pull the dual relay for the ISV, located
under the dash, behind the relay access panel that resides close to the
drivers left knee.
Pulling it out and immediately re-inserting it allows the idle to drop to
normal 8-900 or so.
Why put it back in, you ask?
Leaving it out requires a manual adjustment to the idle air screw, as the
non-relayed idle point drops to around 700 rpms.
Why, and what/s the real fix?
I don't know, but have been told by one source that its the ISV screaming
out for replacement.
I pulled the dual relay (1" X 3" X 3" deep/ black/ Bosch) and when prised
open, reveals a staggering array of resistors, printed circuits and more
doo-dads than you can shake a stick at.
When I swapped it out with a duplicate unit from my '86, the results were
the same. The next step will be to replace the ISV with the one from the '86
to see for sure.
In the meantime, till I spring for new injectors, its a moot point...
If you figure it out, let me know.
All the best,
Mark
