We just acquired a 98 A6q 2.8 for my wife's ride, and she is absolutely in
love with it. Were I to be the one driving it, I would prefer the 2.7t. The
turbo wasn't available, I believe, till 2 years later, and therefore more
money, but also much more performance.
Just this afternoon, here in Denver we had a bit of a surprise blizzard that
wreaked havoc with the PM commute. On the 1 hour 35 minute drive home
(normally 25 min.), I found myself next to a 2.7t at a light with horrible
street conditions. I locked the diffs and figured the surface conditions
would level the playing field for my old URQ. When the light turned green,
that 2.7t took off in a manner that would have impressed me for a dry street.
I couldn't tell what tires he was running, but I want some! My jaw is still
on the floor! Unbelievable! If I hadn't seen them stopped I would swear that
he was running spiked rims.
If you can afford the 2.7t, my vote would be for the turbo.
