Jim,
First, 39k miles is suspiciously low. That works out to 3000 miles per year over
the 13 years of this cars life. I would be afraid that the car is either
misrepresented or has not been driven enough.
Second, 1989 was a transition model year. I have a 1989 200q Avant that is
mechanically pretty much the same as the late 1986-1988 5000tq, though the
interior is the revised "curved dash" style of the 1989-1990 200 models. It
would be nice if someone knew a VIN split between the "early" 1989 and the
"late" 1989, but I suspect that there is not a clean transition as different
parts bins emptied at different times. The later 1989-1990 200 had dual knock
sensors and a higher compression ratio and a computer change as well.
