Subject: A4 1.8t Timing belt change price

Hi,
Based on the wisdom of this list I have decided that I am late for a
timingbelt on my 68k '97 A4 1.8T. My dilemma is this, where is a good
place and a good price in the Boston (+50 mile radius) area?

So far I only have two price points of reference. Pattrick VW (Auburn,

Ma)
will do a Passat for 275. (won't touch Audis though! boo, hiss, hiss).

My
local place says 400-600 depending on what they find when they get in
there.

3 questons:
Anyone know why a dealer would be so much lower than a local?
Is there really any difference between the two car's 1.8T's?
How much do you think a set of Passat name plates and grille cost?
Any pearls of wisdom or simple witty banter appreciated
Thanks,
Jay
