Hello!
My recent wheel & tire problem was finally solved. Last friday, after
chatting with my local dealer for a while, he phoned the Finnish OZ Racing
importer, who dug up a set of F1 Cups (7x16 in. ET 37) for a fairly
reasonable price, since they had a silver finish, and, well, silver isn't an
option in the new catalog. So the wheels had to go, and I had to get them. I
also played around with a few choices for tires, and ended up ordering a set
of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s (205/45ZR16), which is the new revision of the
GS-D2 - surprised? Anyway, the actual tire supposedly won't appear in the
price catalogs in Finland until next friday, so I got mine a bit in advance.
Yesterday, I went to the dealer to try out the wheels and tires and to put
it short, they fit well. The rear fender lips might hit the tire sidewalls
in hard cornering or under heavy load, so they might need to be narrowed by
a few millimeters - not bad. The front mud flaps also block full steering
lock, but they can either be removed or attached by their centerlines, which
will pull them back a bit. Otherwise, there's plenty of room everywhere.
The rims also look pretty cool. If the design is OK for Minard... I mean BMW
Williams, then it'll be OK for me, too. No, really, I do like the shape.
Their quality is also evident, from the machined center caps to the zinc
coated bolts, not forgetting the hub adapters with locking rings. The tires
also show a radically different tread size and shape, and a rim protector
moulding, which is a big plus.
I also took a few photos at the dealer's, so you can see how they fit and
what they look like under the car. If interested, the untouched photos are
temporarily stored at http://www.lut.fi/~piiraine/audi/oz_fitting/ .
Next step: waxing the wheels and waiting for the snow to go.
