Since I got the right numbers finally, I thought I'd share it with the rest
of the list. As well as plant a bit of "archive bait"
Anyway:
CQ's changed control arms at VIN 006001 to the forged control arms used in
subsequent 90's and cabriolet's.
The early builds (up to 006000) uses the stamped control arms, and
apparently the ball joints are unique to the coupe. P/N's are
8A0-407-365 (left)
8A0-407-366 (right)
These are dealer only (not released to public) and the left was $65, the
right was $103. Upon removal of my old ones (presumably original) the part
numbers on those was
893-407-365/366 D or B (there was corrosion and it was hard to tell, I'm
leaning towards "B")
Upon examination, the original ball joints had shorter camber adjusting
slots, with the extra space on the new ones allowing the wheel to sit deeper
in the well. This was the only difference I could see. I took pictures, but
it'll be a while before I get them off the camera.
I wonder if these "B" (or "D") ball joints were superceded by the "E" and
"F" ones that are currently listed for the 80/90's up to 91?
I should mention that my CQ is VIN# 1649 and was built in 7/89
The later builds 006001 and up, needs ball joints
895-407-365 A
895-407-366 A
The Parts Connection etc. has these for about $60 each.
HTH someone.
Jonas
