sounds like a bad fuel pup relay.
next time pop open the fuse box and feel the relay that you can put a fuse in.
This is the fuel pump relay. If so, replace it.
but when the tach drops to zero on the audi's it's usually ignition system,
but the fuel pup relay also does have controls for the ignition system
anyways, my bet's on bad fuel pump relay,

this does indicate the relay cooling then working again. all or nothing
kind of thing.
