Back in the '80s, before synthetic oil became popular, quality teflon
additives (properly screened and electrically charged such as Tuffoil)
and moly additives (e.g. Auto World Auto Moly) were. Advantages
included protection during dry starts and extreme pressure conditions.
Users included government agencies (e,g. the military & NASA), United
Parcel Service, etc. I used AutoWorld's moly in my Renault - never
overheated in NYC traffic and burned 1 qt oil/4000 mi. Advantages over
synthetic? Less tendency to develop leaks in higher mileage engines.
