I doubt we'll run out of methane anytime soon, considering every time you
fart you release some.  While a little hard to contain the amount of gas
from flatulant humans (or other animals, for that matter) landfills give off
a nice supply too - and that is somewhat more easily containable.

While CO2 is a greenhouse gas, CH4 is too and plants "breathe" CO2 and
convert it back to oxygen.

Never mind the amount of SO2, etc. that you would be sparing the environment
by using methane.

Methane?  OK, that works for a while.  What happens when we run
out of methane?  What environmental effect will result from using that
amount of methane?  When methane is burned to liberate its contained energy
the two products are water (big deal) and CO2 (a major contributor to the
greenhouse effect).
