Speaking of test drives, while I visited the other home recently, I had a
chance to drive the new A2 1.2 TDI extensively. What a marvel of modern
technology, from its lightweight construction to the fabulous 3-cyl. 1.2 TDI
engine and its electro-hydraulically controlled clutch. I couldn't help but
smile every time I came to a stop and the thing would stop running, only
restart as soon as I took my foot off the brake, not a new idea by any
means, but much nicer execution than those I've sampled on other cars in the
past. On the highway at restrained speeds around 80-90 km/h I could keep
the consumption to well below 3L/100km, or around 100+mpg (imperial) or
80+mpg(us). The car is comfortable, roomy for four, stylish in its own
quirky way, and very Audi in its fit and finish. Also far from inexpensive.
I guess if you don't see the point of driving the RS6 into the city on a
daily basis for commutes, this is the ticket. It isn't the fastest car in
the world, but it is the most fuel-efficient. If you like your vehicles in
the extremes, here's one everyone should sample.
