Actually, I stayed up and watched that race live on SPEED and
Schumacher's Ferrari was very much in sight coming home third after
being relegated to DFL by a semi-typical Montoya move (ask those he
raced against in CART such as deFerran, Andretti, etc., this is not a
new thing for Juan Pablo...in fact in recent times it seemed he was
maturing out of it). Admittedly, the drive-through he took was
senseless, don't know what the stewards were thinking--it was just one
of them racin' deals as we say here in the US.
The 2002 Williams-BMW looks strong, though, against the 2001 Ferraris
that is ;-)

That's pretty sad since it was the 50th anniversary of the sports car
race that has been world renowned as the tune up for Le Mans for decades
now, and is arguably the second most important sports car race, only to
Le Mans, in the world today. Given the number of entrants from the UK,
that's particularly sad. Given that the best sports car media outlet on
the web comes from the UK, I know some of you over there follow sports
car racing beyond just Le Mans.
But you missed the point of my post about Bill Auberlin, you would have
to have heard his past public statements to understand perhaps. His
quote coming off his stint in the Panoz was ridiculous. I would look for
him to be the one dropped for the sprints after that (Dr. Don likely
doesn't take too kindly to his driver's publicly trashing his series'
number one sponsor and participant-Audi). Just a hunch ;-)
