You missed it. Actually, I'm a big Nena Kerner fan. "99 Red Balloons" was a travesty of the
German "99 Luftballons" though. The original is a sardonic anti-war song from the very early
1980s. It doesn't just lose 'something' in th etranslation - it loses everything.
The "in my case" is because I'm bilingual and prefer the original German - the colour is not
specified in that version, so why should they be red for me? Ho, hum.
(And if you ever want your brains scrambled, try "Irgendwie, Irgendwo, Irgendwann" through a
powerful system. If I announce I want to play "something toonful" the kids just run.)
