Well, my 1987 A2 VW 16v GTI has 260,000 miles on it. This is and has been
the most reliable car I can imagine. I cannot fathom what your friends are
doing wrong with their A2 Golfs if they have reliability issues at 85k
miles, unless they have Motronic or Digifant problems. Mine has CIS-E which
has been very reliable.

Mandatory Audi content: My 1986 Audi 5000cstq has 145k miles on it. It has
had more issues than my VW GTI, but I usually prefer to drive the Audi.
