Rattle by C-pillar

A4, 1999.5, sedan.  1.8T quattro, 5spd.

I've got this funky click/rattle coming from the rear C-pillars.  it seems to be tied to going over bumps.  seems to get worse in wet/cold.  dealer attributed it to body flex/roll.

anybody else had funky rattle/click sound?  it almost soudns like plastic hitting together.  but the tech couldn't find it and the local reps (guys with sweater vests + ties) said it was normal too.....
