If you have a VAGCOM tool, check the measuring blocks and compare the
amount of measured air to spec air at the MAF.  A dying MAF will respond
slowly and have numbers just at or below spec.

The easiest test is to swap a known good MAF onto the car, it takes all
of 5 minutes.
