I've driven AVS Intermediates in 185 and 195/60R14 on a
'85 4ks, '85 Jetta GLI and an '86 4kq.
IMHO, they are the best tire in that size for a summer tire.
I didn't experience extreme wear- rotated properly, they will
last 30k miles, which I find is acceptable for a summer tire.
If you don't rotate them properly, the fronts will only last
maybe 18k miles or less if driven hard.
I have not experienced the fade of wet grip when worn, but
naturally you'll have less water shedding capability with worn
tires.
A friend of mine has the Michelin Pilot XGTH4 on his car and
I don't think they are comparable to the AVS.
