Ken,
When I mean spec, I mean total design not just rates, That's the easy parts
of the equation, the fit, total function of the spring with the application.
i.e. lowering height, travel etc. H&R are usual have a higher rate because
there lowering heights are usual lower than Eibach. Remember if you drop
static height of a car on the you have to increase the rate if your ride
height isn't adjustable. You have less spring holding up the same weight. and
the way you do that is diameter and pitch and number of coils. Typically we
only jump up 10-15 percentage in rates over stock, for streetable apps I have
worked for or with all of the above manufactures and am responsible for
making the spring market a competitive one introducing lines like Intrax.
The problem with a lot of the European specs from Intrax, B+G, they are
identical by the way and made at the same manufacture and use the same spec,
is that the European spec is always different based on the app, this will
typically lower the car just a bit more than a spec created from a US spec
car. And they also try and be lower than the competition. Eibach specs their
apps here in Irvine, CA, on US cars and so does H&R at there facility. In
regard to the machines it really doesn't matter what there wound on as long
as its cold wound. Wafios are the cadillacs of spring winders and they are
nice to use for production reasons, and that's why the bigger spring winders
use them, but what really matters is the overall process and treatment of the
spring that gives it quality. I could go on for a while on spring design and
manufacturing, I do it all day though. In regard to sprint and ST they are
made here by an old company the industry has used from day one and there
concerns are not design or quality but price and you get what you pay for. By
the way the guy who owns sprint used to work for ST? get my drift. I am very
good friends with the owner of MMRUSA and wouldn't mind seeing what I can do
for you but I'll need you full name. Eibachs or H&R no prob. on price
either. Just remember the spring is only going to work to its full potential
with quality shocks. I only recommend Koni for street specs on Audi/VW.
