For being a Porsche mechanic he doesn't know very much about Porsche.  They
ship their cars from the factory with Mobil 1 Synthetic oil and recommend
replacement with same at oil change intervals.  I don't understand why he
would think that.

I'm not an expert on oils but I think your mechanic is looking in the wrong
direction for premature engine wear.  Almost sounds like either a traumatic
event early in its life ( think starting the engine with no oil after a
change.  Oops!  maybe the customer won't notice!) or some kind of
manufacturing defect (not typical for Audi, but it can happen).
