It may not be so cut and dry. There really appears to be specific
engineering reasons to go with 2.5" on these cars. Price may be a factor but
the experts in the field keep pointing to exhaust gas velocity as a fairly
big deal.... Hey, even if the 2.5" pipe performs the SAME as the 3" pipe I'd
be happy. The pipe costs less and it fits better!

maybe they didn't need to dyno it (although that would be the right way to
proove a point!). The physics behind the system seem to show that 2.5" is
just right for even wild horsepower output on our "little" 5 cylinder engines
according to Bell's graphs.
