pressure plate bolt torque? (shouldered vs. nonshouldered)

With all the discussion of proper torque...

Beware of blindly trusting the accuracy of your torque wrench. I recently
snapped a bolt that was supposed to be torqued at 18 ft/lbs, using an
el-cheapo JC Whitney 3/8" drive torque wrench. After spending a few hours
installing a HeliCoil, I started to torque the new bolt but got a sinking
feeling that something was still wrong. So I rigged up a spring balance,
first checking the accuracy of the spring balance, and found that when this
wrench was set at 10 ft/lbs it was actually delivering 18 ft/lbs. It is
accurate at 30 lbs and above, but NG below that. In hindsight, I would
have been better off trusting instinct than relying on that wrench.
