It is possible to run an engine backwards. That's how I get reverse on the 11 HP diesel on my boat. :) Revs and runs just as good backwards as forwards. And I've accidentally started my lawn mower backwards as well. Man that really messed up my lawn. ;)

i'm not a mechanical engineer, but i would bet the crankshaft would have to
be rebalanced if it were rotating the opposite direction.
it might run, but i wouldn't rev it...
