Hello all,
I have to 'fess-up. I've been asleep at the wheel relative to how the large=
r boneyards in my area (north-central MA) are beginning to operate. I stop=
ped in at a yard I hadn't been into for 6-8 months looking for door parts (=
of course..what else) for the kid's 88 5ksq. "Nope, we crushed that one".=
.=2E And then proceeded to inform me in a genuinely polite manner that the=
general public is no longer allowed out in the yard...at any of the four l=
arge yards in our area...they're all owned by Ford (Greenleaf?). Not a pro=
blem. I jumped into my car (the Sable wagon, ... my 84 4ksq has that nasty=
"fuel line leak in the rubber grommet before the fuel pump) and sped off t=
o a less populated yard, pulled the parts I needed off of an 87 (I hope the=
y work) 5ksq...and found out while I was paying for them that the owner (wi=
th all due respect clearly two years older than God) is in the process of s=
elling out. Besides giving me an excellent deal on the parts he gave me a =
quick tutorial on the business strategy of a boneyard relative to the "opti=
mal use of space" and that when you calculate the revenue per year per "spa=
ce" that a junk car uses, you have to find a more efficient way to maximize=
your return on that "space" after all, you have to pay taxes on it, etc. =
Apparently, just as in retail, you have to optimize your yield ($) per squa=
re foot. And you 'gotta move "newer" merchandise like 1992-on...I fear for=
the longevity of my 84. I understand...I'm just bummed! Have a nice week=
end and holiday.
Regards,
George B.
