Turn signal help sought

Weird problem: no turn signals.  They will flash with the hazard button on
the dash pressed.  The fuse is good and the wipers, etc. that are on the
same circuit work fine.

This happened all of a sudden on the way home tonight.  Had blinkers at
lunch; didn't on the drive home.

Any ideas where I should start?  Thanks in advance for any help.  BTW, the
patient is our 91 5-speed V8 which is for sale.  Audi gods protesting?
