Hey Colin/Phil:
Before we stretch this thread too far out into cyberspace and US banking
practices, please do know that paypal is available in the UK, and in many
other EC countries. I've personally done several paypal transactions with
UK/germ/spain email addresses, without any problems whatsoever. It's fast,
it's safe, and the exchange is usually based on the current days accepted
rate. The 2% fee paypal cashout charges is usually requested from all
(including US) recievers of funds.
In the world of e-commerce, paypal is a godsend. No offense to the Don, but
handing over some of the fees to the banks for a wire transfer, makes paypal
a bargain. As many a midwesterner can also share (ingo comes to mind
recently), many times a specified currency transaction from a bank needs to
be "ordered" in advance here in the US.
Ebay has put e-commerce and paypal on the fast track. Even Citibank can't
ignore paypal's inroads, C2it debuted last year as competition. The advent
of the paypal debit card (US only) just adds icing to the cake, in under 1
hour, anyone can have US dollars in hand from a UK/EC paypal payee.
"snort"? How bout, welcome to the world market.

| Excuse me? Paypal is utterly and completely unknown this side of the
pond.
| I'm not even
| aware that they're in business here at all.

| Correct - most US banks are incapable of doing a domestic to foreign
| transfer for consumers inside a week, even with a $20 minimum wire charge.
| Even Exxon only gets it in 2 days and value in 3.
