Digikey and other electronics catalogs have little magnetic field
sensor test light pen/wands, specifically for this; it's basically
just a battery, hall effect sensor, and an LED.  Run it by a
energized relay, and the LED lights up.  I -believe- it works with
both AC and DC relays, but I could be wrong.
