out of control idle, type 44

i also have a type 44, an 86 5KTQ.

lately when it starts it idles low, anywhere from 200
to 600 rpm.  after a min or so it fights its way to
900 rpm.  i was told fuel pump...maybe the filter.

any advice?
also it cuts off sometimes and wont start very
happily....  i was told (again) fuel pump and filter.

otherwise the engine is bomb....i'm about to put in a
1.7 bar spring and other fun stuff...

is the fuel pump something i need to buy new?
how about the alternator?

also any NE ohio Q heads that want to stomp their
audi's for a min lets talk....my 5K loves to take on
the twisty stuff....
