5000 tach question...

well.. ONE tach IN a 5000.

anyone know what lives at the other end of the tachometer? mine's bee screwy
lately and id like to know where to look before i dig into it. the problem
is intermittent, the tach usually registers 1-2000 rpm low, and then will
"jump" up to the right rpm, then fall back down to the wrong rpm. its really
annoying.

it strikes me as probably an electrical connection [i seem to remember
reading the tach was fed off a flywheel sensor??], but before i resolder all
the points on the gauge cluster, id like to inspect whatever sends info to
the gauge.
