Nope. They've been around since the beginning of the year.
A brand new bright red one came to the first NEQ winter school;
Chris(eventmaster) told me the guy showed up on his doorstep with the
car out in front on the date of postmarking, and handed him the
application/check, which had a stamp+postmark of that day.
At the event, someone asked him what it was like to drive. "It is a
VERY big, heavy car. But for a big, heavy car, it sure as hell does
move." It had a nice sound to it on the avoidance course when he
gave it a little gas to go up the hill, and you could hear, both from
the roar and the cheers, when his turn on the skid pad was.
I happened to be in the room when the guy went for his camera in the
car, and on the way back into the hotel, he stopped, stared at my car
for a second, went over for a closer look, then went in.
At 6am in Franconia Notch in Feburary, when someone, not wearing a
jacket, pauses outside for anything...says something...but I never
got a chance to ask him about it...maybe the '02 S6 isn't the first
fast wagon he's owned. In retrospect, I bet he's owned a 200q20v,
'95 S6, etc...
Then again, maybe he was thinking "man, what a lot of dents." <sigh>.
