re. Coupe GT Tranny swap, what's involved?

A few years back a friend of mine was in the process of building a couple of
Improved Touring Audi coupes and had picked up an '86 automatic for one of
the shells. It turns out the body shell for the automatic is different and
the tunnel was too small for the manual transmission. Would have required
some persuasion from a sledge hammer and perhaps more with regard to mounts.
Can't recall. In any case, it isn't a simple swapping of parts. I can try
to find out more.
