detail time: black plastic & rubber prep?

The local Opel dealership (my next door neighbour, actually) taught me a
trick: when your bumpers go grey (which they'll eventually do!), try
heating up the plastic with a paint stripper gun on lowest setting. Heat it
until it goes black again, then leave it to cool off. It'll remain black
for ages.
They use this on the Opel Corsas, which for some reason have a serious
problem with the wheelarch trims going grey within months.

Direct heat away from the paintwork, and take care not to overheat anything!
