I was under the impression that the coilpacks on the S-cars had a
habit of going south...dunno how common that sort of thing actually
is, but it seems like a lot of distributorless cars have similar
kinds of problems.
Granted the non-metal distributor gears on the 3B go too, but that's
easily taken care of before the motor is installed, right?
There is one thing nobody has mentioned...the ODB-II 20vt's are SO
much easier to troubleshoot, because you can get a TON of information
from the ECU with something like VAG-COM(which can log/graph now,
too.) The Motronic in the 3B is about as bright as a doornail in
comparison...I've wished countless times that I could extract half as
much info from the 3B as you can the ODBII-equipped S6's, with units
and all.

Yeah...if you can find a 3B IM for cheaper, it's probably not worth
the $ to go for the RS2 version(particularly if you end up using a 3B
engine, since the RS2 manifold will need to be machined to clear the
distributor. Obviously not a problem on the later 20vts.)
I also concur that if money isn't a problem, the RS2 em would be a
good idea, unless you never plan on doing more than just chipping the
engine(in which case, the benefits don't justify the price.)
