"warmer" air when it is below 40 degrees F at the flap, yes. This
improves fuel economy and helps your engine warm up faster when it is
rather cold out.

I'm sure it did... (oooh, sarcasm - sorry about that!) At that point,
you should remove the flap and warm air hose, and drill extra holes in
the air box.
