Hi Mark;
The 20v is bulletproof and IMO is a slightly better engine than the 10v.
The 3B (the 20v in the '91) has a distributor and reportedly can have
issues with cross-firing the plugs. The AAN 20v engines in the S-cars have
direct fire ignitions and avoid this problem.
The rest of the car is as reliable as the second generation Type 44 (200
series) and is considerably improved over the 5k series. I quite liked my
'91 200q (10v) - it was a refined, reliable car, much more so than my '86
5ktq. My wife preferred the '91 over the UrS4. I, on the other hand, do
prefer the S4 :o)

Greetings folks,
I have a line on a '91 20V TQW (175K). After spending the last 6 years
loving /hating/working all available weekends on, and otherwise pouring all
available cash into an 86 5KTQW and an 87 5KTQ, I've just gotta ask:
Am I setting myself up for more of the same, only with much more cash
outlay? ( and more potential for outrageous speeding tickets?)
Is the 5 cyl 20VT as bulletproof as the 10v?
are the ancillary systems essentially the same as the 5KTQ, i.e.
bomb/rack.hydraulics?
Oil Cooler?
Climate control system/blower/heater core?
not to mention all of the other foolishness
we've come to know, despise and develop
workarounds for? (headlight switches, electricals.. generally)
OR
Have all (or at least some) of these foibles been addressed
at the factory, and were no longer issues by 91?
(He asked.. hoping for the best..)
or should I just get a friggin' toyota and get my life back?
Beaten, but not (quite) broken,
Mark
