Off base? Not at all. I personally would not suggest using Bakelite for
this purpose. However, a phenolic containing much less (none at all?)
filler materials might well serve the purpose. The fillers modify the
properties of the polymer significantly. Those in Bakelite are intended
primarily as cost reduction additions (and, therefore, profit increasing
additions). For the typical Bakelite use this serves well enough. For
this use? I doubt it.
