I highly doubt that we will see this engine here.  Pretty much any car
is available with a diesel in Europe, and we don't get any of them.
Resale on the 96/97 Passat Wagons is ridiculous, proving the market for
a larger car with a diesel engine.

There was an article in the NY Times last weekend about biodiesel and
the diesel market in the US.  It's quoted over on tdiclub.com if anyone
is interested.
