John,
The lube was only on the area where the overflow tube joined into the large
rubber splash shield to aide in removal.  Should any fuel get in contact
with where I had lubed, it would only wash any remaining lube residue over
the side of the car--to get any in the tank, the car would have to be upside
down :-)
