V8 Expansion Tank / cooling problems

Okay, gentlemen.
My v8 has been overheating again. I know that I need to replace the fan
clutch and radiator. As said before the car is fine unless at long stop
lights. (Second fan also works when a/c is on)
Previous owner said fan clutch was weak - but most likely a clogged
radiator would be the case. Those are projects I will be doing. But my
immediate concern is my expansion tank is leaking. I have ordered a new
one from Blaufergnugen (sp) and it will come with the bleeder hose and the
rear hoses attached tomorrow.
How do I remove the sending unit ( wire and connector) in the base of it ?
The tank looks like it is attached by 3 screws. My guess would be to remove
the 3 screws, the sending unit connector and loosen up the hose leading to
the right rear cylinder. But how do I get this connector coming up from the
bottom.
Also I may need to replace the thermostat. My manual says it under the
right side intake manifold. Do I remove the top plastic cover - and then is
it accessible ?? Don't know where it would be.
Thanks,
Steve Kramer
