Strut insert & bearing

I'm about to buy a '93 CS90 quattro.  The pre-inspection found a clunk in the
right front that may be a bad strut insert or strut bearing.  They estimated
it would be $550 to replace struts and mounts.  Is this a reasonable estimate
and is it a possible DIY job or does it require shop-level equipment?
