I recently had the dealer do it on my '98 A4 2.8 30v. He quoted me $600 -
$650 over the phone. He ended up charging me $867. I don't have this 33%
descrepancy resolved yet.
They did have to remove the bumper, however. He told me this upfront, it
says so on their invoice, and their is evidence that it was off because the
bumper fits better now.
As for mileage intervals, the owners manual says 90k miles, the dealer told
me that they recommend 60k. Mine was at 75k and he said it was living on
borrowed time.

Has anyone done there own belt (and H2O pump) on a 98 V6 2.8?
A local shop quoted ~$1000 relating that the front bumper and valance has to
come off. Is this true? It looks to me that it could possibly be done
without
such labor intensive processes.
