You could still either shut it off or take it out of gear. You
wouldn't actually want to shut the key completely off or remove it as
this usually locks the steering wheel.
I dunno about the 911 operator who told her he wasn't autorized to
tell her when she asked, she did ask, if she should shut it off or
put it in neutral.
Either way she was an idiot who shouldn't be driving. Too many people
today don't understand what they're operating or how it works,
especially with automatic trannies which do the thinking for you.
