Type 44 Blower R&R - Initiation Ceremony?

I need to replace the blower motor on my '86 TQ. At the risk of sounding like
a philistine, is it possible to cut the plastic housing so that the blower
could be removed with a "collar". There are an abundance of junk Audis
hereabouts. What I am considering is cutting out a portion of the housing to
remove the motor. Then cutting another out of another Audi with a slightly
larger plastic collar. The replacement could then be epoxied or screwed over
the opening in the original heater box. "Economy of motion is the first mark
of a gentleman".
