200Q Shift linkage problem

I'm having strange problem with the shift on my 89 200Q. When the car is in
neutral, the shifter springs to the right side instead of staying in the
middle. The car actually shifts ok, but its hard to find 3rd gear, since I
need to pull the shifter to the middle. I've seen that you can adjust the
plate that holds the shifter in place, but I can't adjust it enough to
center the shifter when in neutral. Has anyone seen this before? If so, were
you able to fix it? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
