Antifreeze/Coolant is phosphate, silicate, and borate free. This coolant
uses a special chemistry and technology that extends the life of the
corrosion inhibitor package so that it lasts for five years or 150,000 miles
(whichever comes first), and is safe for all cars and light trucks (old or
new). Prestone=AE Extended Life 5/150 Antifreeze/Coolant has been approved =
by
General Motors under their DEX-COOL=AE specifications and is compatible with
other DEX-COOL=AE approved coolants."

I'm still behind in catching up on digests after two days of shooting the
ACNA event at Laguna Seca followed by our 1000 mile+ road trip to shoot the
CART race in Fontana so bear with me here if this topic was beaten to death
;-)
The Prestone AE Extended Life 5/150 Antifreeze/Coolant referenced above is
what I have been using for several years now on my '87 5ktq with no apparent
ill effects. I am changing it more often than every 5 years though (more
like every 2). Prior to the Prestone stuff being available I used Sierra
which is stocked at my local FLAPS that specializes in VW parts (Carr Parts
in Santa Cruz) and touted as being the stuff to use by these guys in water
cooled VWs for many years now.
I also use US made motor oils too ;-)
