Crank case breather hose

John, the likely reason is that its packed with gunk and that air is not freely flowing through it.  Intake manifold vacuum is likely collapsing the hose.  You should replace this as your crank case is not likely being evacuated properly which can cause damage to seals and the rings in your motor.
