re. Crank case breather hose

John,

They do that with age.  In this case, close proximity to the crankcase with
heat and oil cause the rubber to turn to mush.  It's awful thin rubber.

Can anyone tell me the significance and implications of the crank case
breather hose being colapsed?  I'm speaking of the big one that comes off
the back of the block.  Car is an '87 5ktqa.  Replacing it is no big deal,
and the car runs too good to be true as is, but what caused it?  Is
something about to explode?
