I agree that the 2.7t offers Audi significant headaches when justifying the
4.2. however there is something else to consider here - if that engine was
not designed for 350 hp in the way that the RS4 has been, what sort of life
are these 2.7t chipped engines going to offer.
I think that either Audi is going to have a very lucrative parts business
based on relative cost from rebuilding these engines in a few years, or
their are going to be a ton of broken engines with lots of Japanese
interiors/finishes around.
So the issue in say 2006 is going to be whether to buy a S4/A6 2,7 with a
broken engine for $2K and pay $30K to build it to an RS4 spec - or (say)
$50K for the then offered S4 with a version of the 4.2 engine?
Dunno, worth pondering.
