Andrew, I do think you need to take a chill pill. It *is* safe to use
G12 in an Audi that originally came with G11, AS LONG AS ALL TRACES
OF THE G11 IS FLUSHED CLEAN. Lots of people have BTDT including myself.
G12 is a superior performing coolant, with much longer life. The reason
why pre-97/98 Audis specify G11 and later cars come with G12 is simply
because G12 is new and only became available at that time.
I am not advocating that everyone with G11 should switch to G12, but
if one feels compelled to do it, it's ok. Just don't mix the two,
or bad things WILL happen.
While we're on this subject, even though G12 is based on OAT (organic
acid technology) as its corrosion inhibitor, similar to the GM/Havoline
Dex-cool red and Chrysler's orange coolant, they are sufficiently
different that none of these should be mixed.
