94 100 automatic transmission

Tranny would not engage reverse gear. Fluid added but not the problem. Then
I realized the gear shift idicator light on the dash was showing the forward
gear number 3 when I had the shifter in the reverse position.  All other
position correctly read the shifter location, except for the reverse gear.
The problem now seems to have an electrical component. Does anyone have any
ideas here.  I had car towed to the shop yesterday.
