As another data point, my 1989 UK 100 turbo quattro saloon, with the MC-2
does not have the procon ten system or an airbag, it does have a torsen
center diff, facelifted interior, all the guages, newer ABS set up,
leather and climate control though.
The 100/200 differentiation in the UK at least is a trim level one, the
200 usually had nicer trim, leather etc. Also the headlight is slightly
different.
And I think in the UK you could never buy a pre 1989 100 quattro turbo, I
*think* all the type 44 tq's in the UK prior to 1989 were badged as 200s -
but I'd be prepared to eat humble pie over that bold statement:) You could
buy a 100 quattro but I think they were all NA. In 1989 you could buy a
100 tq. Thanks to Phil P we know the story about the 100 tq avant in
1989, 7 were shipped total to fulfil orders for 200 tqas but they had
uprated specs. I have the saloon, of which there were about 70 shipped. I
don't know if there were (m)any cars badged as 200 saloons or avants
shipped to the UK post 1989?
1989 seems to be a bit of a strange year for the type 44 in the UK. My
suspicion is that the 100/200 differentiation did more harm than good and
post facelift in 89 they rationalised by speccing some 100's with the
previous 200 level of toys. Anyone know for sure what was going on around
that time?
Cheerio,
Graham.
1989 100 tq
