Alan, if this is the case on a stock car, then there is a problem with your potontiometer, either in the unit itself or the wiring. What the autocheck is likely telling you is that there are interruptions of the pot. voltage signal to the ignition ecu, you should check your wiring for problems, and also monitor the pot. voltage output (center pin of the 3-pin connector) with an analog voltmeter to see if you can see any interruptions of the signal.
